I know three women. All with cancer, one with lung cancer. They changed the way they eat. Pat went to a clinic for a couple of weeks where they taught her how to eat. All three women are now cancer feee.
Shelly, was a critical care pediartic doctor, now shoes horses, says she stays on the diet. Went off of it and the cancer came back. Now that she’s back on it, the cancer is gone.
The diet is basically no sugar or meat. Lots of raw vegetables. The only one I can tell you about is Pat, (My old college roommate. I visited her for six days in Vegas and ate what she ate.)
For breakfast only fruit. I do that myself now. Pat says it gives the system a chance to clean out. Then for lunch salad. Now you have to make certain you get enough protien. I eat salads for lunch and add garbonza beans which are high protein.
While I was visiting Pat, we ate off the diet a few times. She wondered if it would make a difference. What we found is you can go off the diet some and still be okay. As long as you mainly eat on the diet.
After I finished radiation, I went on a diet, Slim For Life. Basically you cut out all fried foods and soda, (I drank a lot of Pepsi.) Now all I drink are ten glasses of water a day.
When I asked my surgeon for permission to do the diet, she said YES! She said fat makes estrogen and my breast cancer was 94% estrogen driven, (Thanks Estradol.)
I lost 25 pounds. Went from a size 12/14 to a size 6/8. My doctor wants me to take off five more pounds. Now get this, (All of you who live where its cold will understand.), when it warms up, I’ll get serious about it.
What have the rest of you heard about diet?

I’m all for diet; I know how much better I feel anyway. I think we need to look more at the meat/dairy hormone connection…too many dismiss it. I’m reading “what your doctor may not tell you about menopause” right now (highly recommend), and he really thinks most of us ladies are very estrogen dominant…from the foods we eat, the pills we take, and the chemicals in our environment. We know that estrogen dominance can lead to certain types of cancers, as well as many other things.
When I finally move to Portland Maine things are going to change! I’ve always been a very healthy eater, but from now on, no meat unless it’s organic, more fish (metal-free of course), way more veggies, no dairy unless it’s organic, and lots more good quality water. When we finally adopt our baby, only organic milk for sure, and I want to start him/her off without an instant addiction to sugar…something I think is epidemic in kids these days.
Thanks Karen! We can all learn so much from each other!
Oh…just wanted to mention my favorite quick healthy breakfast (for those of us who can’t survive on just fruit!)
Tofu Fruit Smoothie: (if soy is a no-no for you, try a protein powder instead, but the tofu in my opinion is much better..can’t taste it, good protein)
app. 1/4 cup organic tofu
app. 1/4 cup organic plain fat free yogurt
1 banana (not frozen)
app. 1/2 – 1 cup organic frozen fruit ( some good combos, rasp/pineapple, blue/rasp, mango/pineapple, strawberries)
Enough organic apple juice to make it blend.
Yummy! Used to make it in the am and drink it on my way to work. Kept me full until lunch!
There really is no diet in the plan for me. Which I’m kind of disappointed about. It would give me more of a drive. I’m sure eating healthy can up the chances of no re-occurance by a lot since the foods today and the way they are processed can be even slightly harmful to the body.
Just no greasy or spicy foods, that’s all I’m to stay away from but eating anything is a feat for me during the week of chemo.
Your post has intrigued me to do more research :) if I find a good recipie I’ll throw it your way.
Karen – way to go with the heathy eating and weight loss, that is amazing! Tanya – thanks for the smoothie idea. I like it and going to try it. I use to have a lot of smoothie, but some where along the way stopped making them. thanks for inspiring me ladies.
